Critical Behavior of the Kramers Escape Rate in Asymmetric Classical Field Theories

چکیده

We introduce an asymmetric classical Ginzburg-Landau model in a bounded interval, and study its dynamical behavior when perturbed by weak spatiotemporal noise. The Kramers escape rate from a locally stable state is computed as a function of the interval length. An asymptotically sharp second-order phase transition in activation behavior, with corresponding critical behavior of the rate prefactor, occurs at a critical length lc, similar to what is observed in symmetric models. The weak-noise exit time asymptotics, to both leading and subdominant orders, are analyzed at all interval lengthscales. The divergence of the prefactor as the critical length is approached is discussed in terms of a crossover from non-Arrhenius to Arrhenius behavior as noise intensity decreases. More general models without symmetry are observed to display similar behavior, suggesting that the presence of a “phase transition” in escape behavior is a robust and widespread phenomenon.

Study of Volumetric Flow Rate of a Micropump Using a Non-classical Elasticity Theory

The purpose of this research is to study the mechanical behavior of a micropump with clamped circular diaphragm which is the main component of drug delivery systems. In this paper, the non-linear governing equations of the circular microplate using Kirchhoff thin plate theory was been extracted based on the modified couple stress (MCST) and classical (CT) theories. Then, the non-linear equation...

Anomalous behavior of the Kramers rate at bifurcations in classical field theories

We consider a Ginzburg–Landau partial differential equation in a bounded interval, perturbed by weak spatio–temporal noise. As the interval length increases, a transition between activation regimes occurs, in which the classical Kramers rate diverges [MS01]. We determine a corrected Kramers formula at the transition point, yielding a finite, though noise-dependent rate prefactor, confirming a c...

On Symmetric and Asymmetric Buckling Modes of Functionally Graded Annular Plates under Mechanical and Thermal Loads

In the present article, buckling analysis of functionally graded annular thin and moderately thick plates under mechanical and thermal loads is investigated. The equilibrium and stability equations of the plate are obtained based on both classical and first order shear deformation plate theories. By using an analytical method, the coupled stability equations are converted to independent equatio...

Kramers escape rate in nonlinear diffusive media.

In this paper, we study nonlinear Kramers problem by investigating overdamped systems ruled by the one-dimensional nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation. We obtain an analytic expression for the Kramers escape rate under quasistationary conditions by employing a metastable potential and its predictions are in excellent agreement with numerical simulations. The results exhibit the anomalies due to th...
